AB Venous thromboembolism is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Anticoagulation with heparin and warfarin has favorably altered the natural history of untreated venous thromboembolism. The role of thrombolysis and interventional therapy in the management of venous thromboembolism is less well appreciated. This review evaluates the role of thrombolytic therapy and mechanical interventions in the management of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
