While some developments have been restricted due to interactions, side effects, or eradication, the 17 commonly recommended vaccines form a safe an effective arsenal held against infectious agents. Primary vaccination is a key component of the fight against infectious disease, as well as vaccination of immigrants and travelers. High-risk groups have some special considerations. While vaccine supply and production problems have, and in some cases continue to pose difficulties, following the recommended guidelines will help to ensure the safety and health of the population.
