Studies from our center and others have shown that even after LVH is reduced and the antihypertensive therapy is withdrawn, resulting in return of BP to pretreatment levels, both systolic and diastolic LV performance remain enhanced.17,96 The mechanisms by which changes in LVH translate into beneficial clinical outcomes are not clear.

In fact, improvement may actually occur,159 particularly in diastolic performance, which may be an important therapeutic end point.
