  • Weather condition, air pollutants, and epidemics as factors that potentially influence the development of Kawasaki disease

2020, Science of the Total Environment
    Citation Excerpt :

KD was reported to cause coronary artery aneurysm in 25% to 30% of untreated patients and in <5% of patients treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) (Galeotti et al., 2010). Despite advances in treatment, KD has led to ischemic heart disease worldwide and remains the most common acquired heart disease in developed countries (Taubert et al., 1991). In view of seasonal and geographical epidemics, infectious agents and immunologic responses have been suspected to play roles in the pathogenesis of KD (Burns and Glode, 2004), but no causative agents have been identified.
