Serum amyloid A level correlates with T2 lesion volume and cortical volume in patients with multiple sclerosis
2021, Journal of NeuroimmunologyHiding in Plain Sight: Cardiac Amyloidosis, an Emerging Epidemic
2020, Canadian Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :Although the underlying pathogenesis is unknown, the prevailing theory is that uncontrolled inflammation and the subsequent prolonged expression of circulating SAA is a critical prerequisite which encourages amyloid development.75 Because a prolonged inflammatory state does not dictate progression to amyloidosis—with AA amyloidosis occurring in only 5%-10% of persistent chronic inflammatory conditions76,77—it is a certainty that there are disease-modifying factors. In this regard, AA amyloidosis development is likely a consequence of underlying conditions and genetic polymorphisms.

2015, International ImmunopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :The similar results obtained by another study performed in Turkey also support this argument [23]. SAA is a marker of inflammation and its relation with sarcoidosis activity has recently drawn attention [24]. It has been shown that the SAA levels can increase, irrespective of sarcoidosis activity [25].
Effect of amino acid variations in the central region of human serum amyloid A on the amyloidogenic properties
2014, Biochemical and Biophysical Research CommunicationsCitation Excerpt :Although persistently high concentrations of SAA proteins comprise a plausible risk factor for AA amyloidosis, a detailed molecular mechanism has not been elucidated. AA amyloidosis occurs in only 5–10% of humans during persistent chronic inflammatory conditions [2], indicating the existence of disease-modifying factors [3]. Instead of full-length SAA proteins (104 amino acids), the N-terminal fragments mainly consisting of 76-amino acid SAA molecules known as AA fragments have been detected in amyloid deposits [4].
