Sherri Longo, MD

Dr. Sherri A. Longo is a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at Ochsner Health and a native New Orleanian. She graduated from Tulane University with an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering. She earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Longo completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Ochsner and her maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.

Following a faculty appointment at Tulane University School of Medicine, she rejoined Ochsner to work with her mentor Dr. Alfred Robichaux. Dr. Longo is the Director of Research for Women’s Health at Ochsner. Under her leadership, Ochsner Health has become a national subsite to the University of Alabama in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network, which is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and conducts well-designed clinical trials to reduce maternal, fetal, and infant morbidity. Dr. Longo’s research interests have also involved clinical trials in diabetes, hypertension, and infection in pregnancy, as well as preterm premature rupture of membranes and steroids, genetics, and exosomes. Her publications include peer-reviewed articles and chapters. She also mentors Tulane engineering students in the yearly Novel Technology Challenge Program that challenges students to develop a product to solve an existing societal problem or unmet need. Her guidance has allowed for research expansion and diversification in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ochsner Health.
