Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do. So throw out the bowlines. Sail far away from the safe harbor. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Welcome to the summer 2017 issue of the Ochsner Journal. In this edition of the Journal, we are pleased to publish two original research articles, one from our Colon and Rectal Surgery Department at Ochsner Medical Center (Beck D, Bertoni D, Hammond K, et al) entitled “Use of Sodium Hyaluronate/Carboxymethylcellulose Bioresorbable Membrane in Loop Ileostomy Construction Facilitates Stoma Closure” and the other from various departments at the Universities of Florida-Jacksonville and South Alabama-Mobile detailing the “Effects of Immunomodulators and Biologic Agents on Sexual Health in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease” by Kanar O, Berry A, Nakshabendi R, et al.
Three literature reviews are also included in this issue, beginning with one from Grigg C, Anderson, D, and Earnshaw J on “Diagnosis and Treatment of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia.” “Medication-Induced Tardive Dyskinesia: A Review and Update” by Cornett E, Novitch M, Kaye A, et al is included, along with an article by Vadivelu N, Kai A, Kodumudi G, et al dealing with “Pain and Psychology—A Reciprocal Relationship.”
Finally, this issue contains 7 case reports on various topics, including septic embolic stroke due to Staphylococcus lugdunensis endocarditis, persistent sciatic artery: a favorable anatomic variant in a setting of trauma, and Eagle syndrome secondary to osteoradionecrosis of the styloid process. Our cover this month contains a collage of photos from yet another case report written by Jason Pou and Devon Graham from the Ochsner ENT Department. Their submission is entitled “Pediatric Nasal Tip Amputation Successfully Treated With Nonmicrovascular Replantation and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy,” and the photos detail the case of a child whose nose tip was amputated by a dog bite. The cover collage shows anterior and lateral views of the defect and the nose after a 3-layer composite repair, with mild ecchymosis on the graft and a Telfa roll in the left nasal passage to support the graft during initial healing. The final photo shows a well-healed graft 6 months postoperatively with mild alar notching.
This issue's Featured Contributor, Dr David Beck, is no stranger to the Journal, having served as the immediate past editor-in-chief (EIC). Dr Beck is a noted leader in his specialty, especially when it comes to academic productivity. We thank him for his years of service to the Journal and for sharing his scholarly expertise with us both as an EIC and also a frequent submitter of manuscripts for peer review.
Our goal in publishing every edition of the Ochsner Journal is to assist us to “Explore. Dream. Discover”—thank you, Mark Twain—new frontiers in medicine.
