Members of an Ochsner Clinic Foundation Institutional Review Board (IRB) panel consider a new protocol submission at a convened monthly meeting. All members of the IRB panel are provided electronic access to the study documents for review prior to the meeting. In addition to reviewing the study protocol, board members review all information provided to potential subjects, including brochures, videos, social media posts, posters, and advertising.IRBs have the federally mandated responsibility to review research involving human subjects to ensure that a proposed protocol and its informed consent form meet the appropriate regulatory and ethical guidelines.
