Dr. Jorge Garcés, a native of Colombia, graduated from Universidad del Valle in 1989. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia and a fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He then moved to Los Angeles to specialize in transplant nephrology at UCLA under the mentorship of Dr. Gabriel Danovitch. As of 2010, Dr. Garces is a hypertension specialist under the American Society of Hypertension. He is a fellow of several organizations, including the American Society of Transplantation, American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation (NKF), and American College of Physicians. He is also a member of Board of Directors of the NKF Louisiana. His scholarly works include multiple abstracts and poster presentations at national and international meetings as well as peer-reviewed papers. His fields of interest include antibody-mediated rejection, polyomavirus nephropathy, and immunosuppression. He joined Ochsner in 2002, where he has served as the (former) associate program director and co-founder of the general nephrology fellowship. Since 2015, Dr. Garces has served as the program director and founder of the transplant nephrology fellowship, with graduating fellows currently holding academic and leadership positions in various transplant centers. Dr. Garces enjoys traveling with his wife Rosario and daughter Andrea.
